Hello everyone. I am doctor Sirisha Singh. I am a dermatologist and aesthetic dermatologist. We are going to do a brief talk on itching of the skin during summers and how to avoid itching of the skin during summers and how treat the itching of the skin during summers. Itching of the skin during summers is a very common problem. It is particularly common in people who inherently have dry skin even people who do not have inherently have dry skin if they live in areas where where there is low ambient humidity as we do have in Delhi,.
India we tend to develop dry skin during summers due to the low humidity. Summers also comes with a lot of sweating and accumulation of sweat on the surface of the skin also results in itching of the skin. In addition to this we tend to take several baths during summers to try and cool down our body temperature. During these baths if you use a harsh soap or a harsh cleanser it can further dry out the skin and cause itching of the skin. This topic focuses specifically on itching of the skin without the presence of a rash that is.
Itching with no underlying skin infection. to avoid itching of the skin the most important step is to use a gentle non foaming cleanser while taking a bath and one could take a bath with lukewarm water or cool water to try and cool down the skin. The gentle non foaming cleanser will prevent the skin from drying out and will prevent the itching from getting worse. Once could also take a bath with oatmeal. That is in a tub of bath water you could put half a cup of ground oatmeal. The oatmeal cleanses the skin and at the same time hydrates.
What Causes Itchy Skin and How to Cure It
The skin effectively to prevent drying of the skin and to prevent excessive itching of the skin. Another way of looking after hydration of skin is looking at what we consume. It is advisable to consume a lots of fruits and vegetables. Particularly juicy fruits and vegetables which have a lot of fluid and also concentrate on drinking about two to three litres of water during the day. Because we not only need to look after the water requirements of the body but due to sweating we lose extra water and that extra water needs to be replenished.
In the body system. One could also wear clothes which are made of cotton or linen. So clothes with loose breathable fabric to prevent sweating of the skin and to prevent blockage of the sweat glands of the skin. In addition to this a lot of people feel that we don’t really need a moisturiser on the skin. But if you are living in an environment like Delhi where whether is quite dry the skin tends to get dry in summers, one would need a moisturiser. However one needs to use a very light moisturiser. Perhaps a moisturiser which contains aloe.
Vera which works very gently on the surface of the skin without blocking up the sweat glands of the skin. If in spite of all these problems you do have intractable itching you might have an underlying medical condition or you might have a certain skin infection which does not show up as rash on the surface of the skin and it is advisable to consult a dermatologist for further advice and treatment of your underlying problems.
